The Environmental Protection Agency held a field hearing this week in Michigan on their 2020 proposed renewable fuel volume obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard. Katie Fletcher with the American Coalition for Ethanol testified that those levels need to be at 15.5 billion gallons for conventional biofuels and to help achieve that, the waived RFO’s need to be reallocated.
She says besides reallocating small refiner waived gallons, the EPA also needs to restore gallons that were unlawfully waived from the RFS three years ago.
Fletcher says ACE is also concerned the agency which will be considering in the near future new small refiner waiver requests may damage the ethanol industry further by granting more of those.
EPA’s proposed 2020 RFS renewable fuel obligations are at 15 billion gallons.
