China is working to increase its use of ethanol and will need to import more of it to reach 10 percent volume by 2020. American Coalition for Ethanol Senior Vice President Ron Lamberty says that’s a positive development as they’ll likely need to import much of it from the United States. He says China and other countries like India are seeing ethanol’s benefits both economically and environmentally.
He says not only is China and India looking at corn ethanol but so are several South American countries. Lamberty says using corn for ethanol is making more food available contrary to the misinformation put out by food versus fuel proponents.
Lamberty says the world not only needs renewable fuels like ethanol but also the end products that come from it and other countries are just starting to realize it.
Lamberty says looking back over the past ten years, when the rest of the country was suffering economically, the Midwest where ethanol is largely produced and used was doing well.
