The Environmental Protection Agency has released their 2017 renewable fuel standard volume obligation proposal. Under the law Congress enacted the renewable fuel volumes for 2017 should be 24 billion gallons while the EPA has proposed 18.8 billion gallons. For Corn Ethanol, the law calls for 15 billion gallons and EPA is proposing 14.8 billion gallons. American Coalition for Ethanol Executive Vice President Brian Jennings says his group is disappointed with EPA’s RVO proposal.
He says the reasons the EPA is giving for dropping the volume levels is based on the oil industries so called blend wall.
Jennings says ACE and other biofuel groups will work to try and convince the EPA to change those RVOS. He says they’ll do so in three different steps including, continuing litigation against the agency, attending an upcoming EPA hearing and submitting public comments.
EPA’s final 2017 RFS volume rule is set to be finalized on November 30.
