The American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers are claiming that the Renewable Fuel Standard is based on outdated projections. They’ve taken that to social media by purchasing a Facebook advertisement that directs Facebook members to their webpage in an effort to defend small refinery waivers. American Coalition for Ethanol Board Director Troy Knecht says their argument is based on false information using a source that’s not credible.
The AFPM says the limiting factor for ethanol consumption is and has always been, the blend wall. Knecht says that’s a false contention because there’s no such thing as a blend wall.
He says it’s critical for them to keep defending the RFS as it’s needed for producers especially as they’re under so much financial stress.
The APFM officials say the RFS mandate won’t grow the capacity of the fuel supply or inspire more consumers to buy E-15 and flex fuels. If consumers do buy more of those, then it will lead to higher compliance costs and more imports of renewable fuels.
