The Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation held a hearing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Wednesday on CAFÉ standards ( Corporate Average Fuel Economy). American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings testified at the hearing. He says automakers need flexibility to meet CAFÉ-Greenhouse Gas standards and the most inexpensive way to meet those is with higher blends of ethanol.
He also recommended the EPA implement minimum octane ratings and phase out low quality fuel used in mountain states.
Jennings says one of his most important recommendations is that the EPA establish new incentives for vehicles designed to achieve optimal efficiency on high octane ethanol blends.
He’s also encouraging ACE members to comment on these standards and they have until October 26 to do that.
