The CEO of the American Coalition for Ethanol was encouraged with yesterday’s testimony by EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt on the Reid Vapor Pressure Rule. The ethanol industry has been wanting the agency to lift the RVP, so higher blends of ethanol like E15 can be offered year-round. Brian Jennings says Pruitt told the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee he’s reviewing the law to see if he has the authority to grant a waiver.
He says if the RVP Rule gets lifted it will benefit consumers, as well as farmers.
Jennings says for agriculture, lifting the RVP would mean more corn ground into ethanol and more ethanol sold. He says those economic benefits would come at a good time, when the ag economy is struggling. Jennings says the EPA is about halfway through their review of the law governing RVP.
Jennings says Pruitt is also checking to see if high octane fuel could play a role in helping automakers comply with future efficiency and fuel economy standards.
