China is in the process of opening up its market once again to U.S.exporters of Dried Distillers Grains. Given all the economic pressures the U.S. ethanol industry has been under lately, that’s great news for exports of the byproduct. American Coalition for Ethanol Board Director Troy Knecht says that’s a very encouraging development.
He says getting more ethanol byproduct out to export markets is welcome at a time the ethanol industry is being pressured by small refiner waivers, low energy prices and the recent outbreak of COVID-19.
Knecht says while domestic sales of ethanol and DDGs is important, trade is also important for the viability of the biofuels industry.
At one time China had been the top market for U.S. dried distillers grains but the trade war and retaliatory tariffs put a halt to that.
