The Environmental Protection Agency released their proposal for renewable fuel volume obligations under the RFS today for 2020. The agency is proposing leaving corn based ethanol at 15 billion gallons and providing slight growth for cellulosic ethanol and biodiesel. American Coalition for Ethanol Board member and past South Dakota Corn Growers President Troy Knecht says the proposal is disappointing.
He hopes the EPA doesn’t think that by allowing full year sale of E15, it gives them the ability to keep corn based ethanol’s rvo level stagnant.
Knecht says ethanol supporters and groups will likely push the EPA to change the levels they’ve proposed.
Under the EPA proposal advanced biofuels which includes biodiesel would grow from 4.92 billion gallons to 5.04 billion gallons. Cellulosic ethanol would increase from 420 million gallons in 2019 to 540 million gallons in 2020.
