The public comment period on the Environmental Protection Agency’s supplemental RFS rule closed on Friday. Now what happens? American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says now the EPA, Department of Energy, USDA and the White House will meet to go through all those comments and come up with a final rule and how to handle the reallocation of the lost biofuel volumes.
He expects only part of the lost biofuel volumes to be reallocated.
Jennings says what that fraction represents will have a huge impact on the biofuels industry going forward.
Jennings says the damage has already been done with the 4 billion gallons lost of biofuels that was suppose to be blended. He says it’s resulted in ethanol and biodiesel plant shutdowns, the falling of ethanol demand, the collapse of rins values which is the incentive offered to refiners to blend biofuels.
