ABA Therapy Added to South Dakota Insurance Policies

Governor Kristi Noem announced late last week that Avera Health and Sanford Health will include Applied Behavioral Analysis therapy in insurance coverage next year.
That coverage for kids on the autism spectrum was lost last year.
Representative Ryan Cwach of Yankton had introduced bills to include that coverage in this years session of the legislature…

Cwach says having caps will limit the therapy available in some cases…

These changes apply to policies purchased on the ACA marketplace.
Cwach says that means other, employer based insurance, may have lesser coverage…

Cwach says it is a short-term solution and the legislature needs to take it up again in 2020.
