Midland, Texas banker Ken Burgess, chairman of the ABA Ag Bankers spoke to lenders at their national conference in Milwaukee this week. Burgess says ABA needs to get things done in Washington D.C. to help small community banks.
He says bankers located in those smaller communities are better able to serve the needs of their customers in those communities than are those in other towns and cities.
Burgess says burdensome regulations hurt lenders in small community banks and it’s hard for those banks to hire the people needed to deal with those rules.
Burgess says the small community banks can benefit by using new technology such as electronic checks and mobile banking.
