The future of hundreds of patients at 21 Nebraska nursing homes and assisted living facilities is in limbo.
The Department of Health and Human Services placed those sites across the state in receivership.
Appropriations Committee chairman Senator John Stinner of Gering says this highlights a growing problem.
The 21 facilities in receivership impact about 2,000 patients and more than 1600 employees who have not been paid in weeks.
Stinner says these facilities are struggling in rural Nebraska.
The facilities in receivership are owned by Cottonwood Healthcare, also known as Skyline.
An Omaha company is overseeing their operation until a new owner comes forward or patients are relocated.
