The 2018 South Dakota Legislative session is now in the books. It was a successful one for agriculture according to Brenda Forman, Executive Director of the South Dakota Association of Cooperatives. She says they were able to convince lawmakers to update the statutes impacting cooperatives and bring those up to speed with new technologies.
She says they received good support from legislators for an nutrient management plan for agriculture.
Forman says they were also pleased with the compromise legislation on non-meandered waters. She says it protects private property rights for landowners and provides more access for sportsmen.
Plus, state lawmakers provided $2 million in funding to support construction of a new precision ag building at SDSU.
