Wayne State College Director of Athletics Mike Powicki has announced that Bruce Erickson has been named head women’s soccer coach.
Erickson will begin his duties immediately and becomes the eighth coach in the program’s 19-year history.
“We are ecstatic to be able to hire a coach with Bruce’s expertise, experience and network within women’s intercollegiate soccer,” commented Powicki. “We have made a lot of progress with our women’s soccer program the past couple of years so to bring in someone of Coach Erickson’s caliber to help continue building our program is very exciting.
Not only does he have numerous years of NCAA Division I and NAIA coaching experience, but as a former athletic director possesses administrative experience which I am confident will pay dividends for the overall long-term success of Wildcat athletics.”
Bruce Erickson has 22 years of experience as a college coach with the last 16 at Creighton University where he guided the Bluejay women’s soccer program to a 163-125-32 record that included a 10-6-2 mark in 2014. Erickson led Creighton to five NCAA Tournament appearances (2002, ’04, ’05, ’07 & ’10), five Missouri Valley Conference tournament championships and two Missouri Valley regular season conference titles. Prior to Creighton, Erickson also served six seasons as head men’s soccer coach while also serving four years (1995-98) as athletic director at Viterbo University in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
