South Dakota Corn Growers Don’t Want Valuation Change

A battle could spring up this session in the South Dakota legislature over a possible tweaking of the ag land valuation method.  An interim task force is expected to bring forward a bill to change the valuation method from determining the valuation based on the ag land’s ability to produce income to an actual use method.  South Dakota Corn Growers opposes that. Executive Director Lisa Richardson says her group worked hard for the present system.

Richardson says the present ag land valuation system needs to be given a chance to work before making any drastic changes to it.

South Dakota lawmakers open their 2014 session today in Pierre.
