This is the 80th anniversary memorial ceremony of for the loss of the USS Scorpion SS-278 in February 1943.The namesake of the South Dakota submarine memorial.

There was also a 2nd USS Scorpion SSN-578 that was also lost in May 1968, so the 56th anniversary for that loss as well.

We will have a guest speaker Rear Admiral Todd Figanbaum Deputy Director, U.S. Strategic Command Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, NE.

The ceremony will take place at the memorial on Riverside drive in Yankton near the Meridian Bridge at noon on May 18th, 2024

The public is welcome and the service is free to attend.
