The University of South Dakota Department of Theatre presents William Shakespeare’s tragedy “Romeo and Juliet,” Dec. 7 at the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts.

The play begins in Verona where servants from the two feuding households, the Montagues and Capulets, begin to duel. Once the duel has been broken up, Romeo pines for his love Rosaline. His cousin Benvolio and friend Mercutio persuade Romeo into attending a ball at the Capulet’s house, even though they are Montagues. While at the ball Romeo becomes enamored with Lord Capulet’s daughter, Juliet. Upon confessing their love for each other, Romeo and Juliet plan to marry hoping that their marriage will reconcile their feuding families.
