This Labor Day weekend – September 5 & 6th, South Dakota’s top BMX facility – Aberdeen Exchange BMX, will host the USA BMX South Dakota State Championships for Bicycle Motocross (also known as BMX). The event will attract over 300 competitors from all over the state. Aberdeen BMX, which was awarded this race for being the No.1 ranked BMX track in the state, will be holding races this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The South Dakota State Championships will begin around 11am on Sunday – Sept 6th, with an awards presentation following the main events.
Bicycle racers of all ages – both boys and girls, will compete for the day’s awards as well as the title of South Dakota State Champion in their age group and classification. The race organizer – Kyle Oswald and his volunteer crew, and its national sanctioning body – USA BMX, will award all State Champions with numberplates, State Championship backpacks and custom awards.
Since January, racers – as young as 4 years old up to 60+, have been competing at South Dakota’s three BMX venues to tally up their best finishes. USA BMX Racing is a sport for boys and girls of all ages – from ages 2 to 60+, with three skill levels per age. Up to eight riders speed down the starting hill, maneuvering over dirt obstacles and around banked turns in hopes of winning a 4-foot tall first place trophy. On average, each race is a 35 second sprint, with full contact, close-knit racing and sometimes thrilling crashes and victories.
The Olympic sport of BMX Racing is exciting for all ages – to either watch or participate. In USA BMX, nobody sits on the bench – and how far you advance in the sport is completely up to the individual as opposed to a team.
