The great Okoboji outdoors is a wealth of beautiful wildlife, glistening bodies of water, and wild … food?
Iowa Lakes Community College’s GROW program comes to the Dickinson County Nature Center for a Wild Edibles class 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, July 15.
Naturalist Charles Vigdal will take adults through the rules and tips of finding edible plants right in their own backyards or in common areas such as road ditches. Learn how you can utilize cattails, pineapple weed and other plants in your everyday meal preparations.
Many wild edibles are prized in natural food stores and featured in upscale restaurants, and people are rediscovering the importance of wild edibles because of their health benefits. For instance, lambs quarter is high in iron, minerals and amino acids.
The Wild Edibles class costs $10 per person or $15 for two people. Register at www.iowalakes.edu for course 65194.
