YANKTON – Whether you’d like to learn basic soldering techniques or you’re interested in refreshing or expanding upon your previous soldering knowledge, you’ll find the instruction you need during RTEC’s newest hobby class, Soldering Made Simple, beginning at RTEC on Nov. 18, 2016.
The first session of this 2-part course will be held from 5 – 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016. Class will continue from 8 a.m. – Noon on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016. During this 8-hour, hands-on class, you’ll cover the basic principles of soldering and then have a chance to try your hand at soldering with electrical wire, copper tubing and with light silver, used for trendy crafting/jewelry-making applications. You’ll also learn how to remove solder and how to solder circuit boards for electronics. As part of the class, you’ll enjoy some one-on-one instruction time. You are encouraged to bring questions and even a small project from home if you’d like to work on it or would like to get a little bit of advice on how to proceed. Soldering irons will be provided, but you are welcome to use your own if you’d prefer. Cost of this hobby soldering class is $85 (including tax). In case of inclement weather, the class will be offered on Dec. 2 & 3, 2016. Participants are asked to wear work jeans and to wear long hair pulled back. No previous soldering experience is necessary, making this class a perfect fit for individuals who would like to learn how to solder for practical purposes or to learn how to create unique pieces of art and jewelry.
