The House of Gurney Historic District Holiday Parade of Lights will be Friday, December 4 in downtown Yankton. Line up of the parade will be on Levee Street and Capital beginning at 5:30p.m. The parade will start at 6:00 p.m.
Businesses, non-profits, churches, schools and individuals are encouraged to decorate a vehicle, trailer, yourself, a pet – anything goes. If your group doesn’t have an idea for decorations, this year you can rent a display for $25. The rentals are units that used to be displayed at Riverside Park. Select the display or display you wish to rent, provide the generator or electrical inverter, extension cords and your group will be set. All rental proceeds go to the Yankton Booster Club as athletes will be available to help set up your float. Contact Alison at 260-6870 to register and/or reserve a display for your truck or trailer. Rentals can be picked up beginning at noon on Friday, December 4. The organizers would like to have as much participation as possible this year and feel providing the displays would make the effort simple to entrants.
There is no entry fee for participation, but if you would like to rent a display, we ask for the $25 donation. The parade route will go north on Capital, turning west onto 3rd Street, south on Cedar and east on 2nd Street and end at the Gurney Landing large building on 2nd & Capital. Parade winners will be announced at the end of the parade. 1st place winners in Commercial, Non-profit & Individual will receive $50 in Chamber Dollars and 2nd place will receive $50 gift certificates from the Twist of Pine.
Free hot chocolate will be served. Retailers in the House of Gurney Historic District, including Twist of Pine (in the former Gurney Gas Station) and L. Lenae Designs & Floral (flower and gift shop in the big Gurney building) and The Landing Restaurant (on the corner of Levee and Capital Street) will all be featuring promotions before and after the parade. Photos can be taken with Santa as well in the retail section of the Gurney building.
