Vermillion Landfill and SD DENR are working together to offer free tire recycling to residents of Clay, Yankton, and Union counties. The program’s goal is to prevent or slow the spread of the Zika virus. Tires are a breeding area for the mosquito which can spread the virus. The collection sites at this time are the Vermillion Landfill and the Yankton Transfer Station. The Yankton Transfer Station will begin accepting tires from residents immediately at no charge.  Commercial business tires and tires from retailers are not covered under this program and will be charged for tire disposal. The program will run over the course of the next three to four weeks. Other sites may become available in the future. Please check www.vermillion.us headlines for collection site updates.
