The art of teaching art weaves together culture, media and creativity to stimulate learning. Art teachers nudge students toward better communication through self-expression and problem-solving skills. The profession requires versatility and broad responsibility.

The Wayne State College Department of Art and Design presents “Factotum,” which means Jack-of-all-trades. The exhibit includes works by four artist teachers in training: Andrew Holton of Plainview; Jesse Mayo of Madison; Hope Pedersen of Norfolk; and Briley Wiese of Lindsay. They display artistic exploration through sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking and ceramics.

The exhibit is on display Nov. 2 through Nov. 22 in the Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery in Conn Library. An opening reception introduces the exhibit Thursday, Nov. 2 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

Gallery Director Dr. Andy Haslit, Assistant Professor of Art History, curates the exhibit. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 3 to 7 p.m. It is closed Saturday. Shows end at noon on closing day.
