The American Farm Bureau Federation is calling on the U.S. Trade Representative to initiate a WTO retaliation proceeding against the European Union for failing to provide a process for reviewing food biotechnology products. Nebraska Farm Bureau National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux one of the major goals is to get the E.U. to approve genetically modified crops.
Dux says g.m. crops are environmentally friendly and provide an excellent global food source to feed a growing population. He says there is no scientific basis to ban them.
Dux says without g.m. crops and biotechnology it will be difficult for the Obama administration to reach its goals of doubling exports in the next five years.
