A national organization representing university faculty is questioning the apparent dismissal of Mike Catangui as a tenured professor and extension insect specialist at South Dakota State University. Greg Scholtz Associate Secretary and Director of the Academic freedom department for the American Association of University Professors says they learned of the apparent dismissal from one of Catangui’s colleagues.
Scholtz says following that they began their investigation.
Scholtz says AAUP then wrote a letter to SDSU’s administration and sent it to President Chichoine.
Catangui says he’s served South Dakota to the best of his ability for nearly 20 years but declined further comment.Former SDSU Extension entomologist Ben Kantack says Catangui was unfairly targeted for refusing to go along with regional recommendations on when farmers should spray to control soybean aphids.
