Farmers Union Vice President Happy With Antitrust Workshop

The Vice President of the Minnesota Farmers Union is one of over 700 people attending the first of several ag antitrust workshops being held today in Ankeny, Iowa. Gary Wertish says he’s convinced the federal officials are very serious about enhancing enforcement of the antitrust laws and providing stricter enforcement of the Packers and Stockyards Act based on their comments at the meeting.

Wertish says officials from both the Justice Department and USDA indicate they intend to work together to make headway on the antitrust problem. He says they’re committed to helping producers get a fair price for their products.

The Ankeny workshop is the first of several being held by USDA and the Justice Department with the final one set for later this winter in Washington D.C.
