Disaster Bill Passes in Senate

Disaster aid for farmers affected by weather-related disasters is one step closer to passage after the Senate approved the package as part of the Tax Extender bill yesterday.  Senate Ag Committee Chair Blanche Lincoln says the $1.5-billion of assistance will help many producers stay in business.

She says the assistance comes at a critical time as producers are heading into a new crop season.

Most of the aid in the bill will go to farmers in the mid-South and Delta.  Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley voted against the Tax Extenders Act based on the addition of another $100-billion to the federal budget deficit.
