Nebraska Unicameral Advances Water Tax Legislation
The Nebraska Farm Bureau is supporting a piece of legislation that would give Natural Resource Districts in the Republican River Basin the ability to levy a tax on irrigated farmland. Farm Bureau’s State Director of Government Relations Jay Rempe says even though it’s a tax, it’s positive for agriculture.
The measure, Lb 862 advanced to General File and is expected to be heard again next week in the Unicameral. Rempe says the bill clears up any legal questions that surfaced in previous legislation.
Rempe says his group is pleased the bill has advanced so far and they’re hoping to get it ultimately passed and sent on to the Governor for his signature.
