Nebraska Senator Meets With Japan's Ambassador To Push Trade
Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns met with Japan’s ambassador on Friday and drove home the point that Toyota automobiles are more dangerous than U.S. beef. He says people have died as a result of defects in the autos while no one has died from BSE. He also says Japan has hurt the U.S. cattle industry with its failure to fully open their markets to American trade.
Johanns says he’s hoping further action will come out of the meeting. The next step is for the President and his colleagues in Congress to also push the issue.
Johanns says the U.S. cattle industry has been under severe economic pressure dealing with trade issues that have multibillion dollar impacts and also with the recession that has also had major negative effects.
