OCM Hopeful Something Concrete Comes Out Of Antitrust Meeting

The first of several workshops looking at antitrust issues in agriculture will be held in Ankeny, Iowa this Friday. The event is being hosted by the U.S. Justice Department and USDA. Organization for Competitive Markets Executive Director Fred Stokes is hoping the workshops will result in significant antitrust reform and stricter enforcement of existing laws like the packers and stockyards act.

Stokes says the workshops will cover several segments of agriculture with the more significant meetings coming after the meeting in Iowa.

Stokes says the final workshop will be in December in Washington D.C and will focus on margins and how the food pie is sliced and who benefits from it.
