TB Testing Wrapping Up in South Dakota With Three Positives
The testing is complete in South Dakota for cattle herds associated with that positive TB or Bovine Tuberculosis case in December.South Dakota State Veterinarian Dr. Dustin Oedekoven says their testing did uncover an additional infected cow in the Yankton County herd, and an additional infected cow was found in a herd in Douglas County but the cases were tied to the original source herd. Both herds remain under quarantine.
He says the good news is that that additional positive did not change South Dakota’s TB free status. And so far only Wisconsin is requiring testing prior to importation of cattle from South Dakota.
Oedekoeven says they’ve been working with USDA to develop a plan of action regarding whether or not they will be buying out the herd or conducting some type of test and remove procedure.
