South Dakota Stock Growers and Farmers Union will be hosting Congresswoman Kristi Noem Saturday afternoon at the Black Hills Stock Show in Rapid City. The groups are gathering to talk about the farm bill. Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says he’s hoping Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pushing a 5-year bill will compel the House to take action soon.
Stock Growers Executive Director Silvia Christen says her members are concerned about the drought effects from 2012 and it continuing into this year. She says the farm bill extension didn’t include any money for livestock disaster aid which is badly needed and they hope to share that with Representative Noem.
