Taylor Predicts Lower Yields in 2013

The effects of the second strongest LaNina in history may linger into 2013 and cause the drought to linger as well.  Iowa State University Climatologist Dr. Ellwyn Taylor says when LaNina is in place it generally means a 70-percent chance of below trend line yields.   Although the phase is waning, its not over yet which could be problematic for the 2013 growing season.

Taylor says the the severely depleted soil moisture levels also increases the probability for below normal production is 2013 and that moisture is hard to replenished during the winter.

He says the good news is that its rare for droughts to occur in back to back years.
