BOLD Nebraska Wants Governor To Deny Pipeline Request

The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality’s report on the KeyStone Pipeline re-route is now in Governor Heineman’s hands.  He now has 30 days to recommend approval or denial of the new route.

BOLD Nebraska Energy director Ben Gotschall says they want the route denied because it still crosses the Ogallala aquifer and the Sand Hills. He says one of the main concerns is that landowners will have to pay for economic damage if a pipeline spill occurs on their property.

Gotschall says if Governor Heineman approves the new route, his group will work  to protect landowner rights.  They’ll also call on President Obama to once again step in.

The President denied the original pipeline route because of its environmental concerns and because it would have crossed the Ogallala aquifer and the Sand Hills.
