Farmers Alter Planting Intentions Again

The latest Farm Futures survey results show growers plan to increase corn ground in 2013 and cut soybeans.  Magazine Sr. Editor Byrce Norr says farmers intend to boost corn seedings to 97.75 million acres.  That is a little less than 1-percent more than in 2012….but down from their August results.

Knorr says from central Illinois and east in the corn belt they’ve received some adequate moisture which is also improving prospects for corn.  However, it’s still early.

The latest survey finds farmers plan to plant 76.84 million acres of soybeans.  That would a little less than the 77.2 million USDA estimated but more than the 76.1 farmers estimated last spring.   He says these acreage figures would nearly double corn carryout and substantially increase soybean ending stocks as well.
