Ag Committees Told Baseline Not A Problem

Senate Ag Committee member Chuck Grassley says the ag committees won’t have to work with a reduced baseline as they write the 2013 farm bill.  He says the committee leadership told members it would not be a factor.

Grassley says the ag committees will immediately get to work on a five year bill.  He expects the process to go smoothly in the Senate with few changes from the last proposal.  However, the House Ag Committee may have some work to do to get a bill that can make it through the full House.

Grassley says the framework of the initial proposal was sound and it’s unfortunate they have to start back at square one.  However, he says at least the extension provided farmers with some certainty heading into the 2013 planting season.
