Ssu Chen of Vermillion was this year’s winner of the South Dakota Beef Cookoff held over the weekend at the State Fair. The theme was Destination Dinner and she prepared Sioux Falls Night Lights Beef Stir Fry. She came up with the recipe for her husband who works long hours in Sioux Falls, but still likes a nutritious lunch break.
Chen likes to cook with beef because she believes it’s a good value for the high nutritional level. Plus it’s versatile and a family favorite in her recipes.
Coordinator Karla Pazour says the event continues to grow each year and bring in many youth and adult contestants for the beef recipe cooking competition. This year’s theme was Destination Dinner.
She says the beef cook-off contestants were judged on several criteria but taste is number one.
Chen wins $500 dollars as the adult winner. The youth division was won by Michaela DeWald with Thai Beef Stir-Fry.
