Ohio man snorts drugs in jail lobby, asks to be arrested

NEWARK, Ohio - For most people, jail is a place to avoid. For one man, it was a place to sleep.

A 34-year-old Newark, Ohio man reportedly rapped on the window of the Licking County jail's lobby at 10:05 p.m. Saturday, and told an officer he was going to snort a line of methanphetamine -- and then did, according to the Newark Advocate.

"He said he wanted to come in and go to sleep and get help for his drug problem," an officer wrote in the police report.

The man was arrested but declined to provide the written statement and urine sample that he initially said he wanted to provide.

He spent the remainder of the weekend in jail before being released Tuesday. No charges were filed.
