Pork Industry Pleased but Wary of EPA Withdrawing CAFO Rule

Pork Industry officials are pleased EPA has withdrawn its proposed Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation Reporting Rule. SDPPC Executive Director Glen Muller says while he’s relieved the federal agency is backing off a regulation that would have led to invasion of producer privacy, he’s still wary of what might happen in the future and continues to monitor EPA.

National Pork Producers President Elect Randy Spronk says had EPA gone forward with the rule, it would have been an unnecessary regulation on producers that would have benefitted activists who are attacking animal ag groups like NPPC.

Spronk says EPA was being pushed by groups like HSUS, The Waterkeepers Alliance , Natural Resources Defense Council and Sierra Club to put pressure on producers with increased regulations like the recent CAFO rule.
