Catherine Zeta-Jones wants to play Cleopatra in new rock musical

Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is planning to return to Broadway as Cleopatra in a new rock and roll musical.

The Oscar-winning Chicago beauty won over critics and earned a Tony Award for her star turn in 2009's A Little Night Music, and she's currently showing off her vocal talents in the Hollywood adaptation of another Broadway show, Rock of Ages.

The new film appears to have inspired Zeta-Jones to seek out more musical roles - she is developing a stageshow about the Ancient Egyptian queen with her Traffic director Steven Soderbergh.

During an interview on U.S. talk show The View on Friday, she said, "I just finished a movie with Steven Soderbergh and we have an idea - actually it was for a movie - to play Cleopatra. It's a rock and roll musical movie, but we think it would just be fantastic on Broadway." (MT/WNVVW/KL)
