Kathie Lee Gifford asks Martin Short about wife, unaware she's dead (VIDEO)

Kathie Lee Gifford's interview with Martin Short on "Today" on Wednesday turned very awkward when she started quizzing him on his marriage, unaware of the fact that Short's wife died a year and a half ago.

Gifford said that Short and his late wife, Nancy Dolman, "have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business." She then asked, "How many years are you in love with her now."

"We... married 36 years," he said, choosing not to clarify or correct her.

“But you’re still like in love?” Short said, “Madly in love, madly in love.” When Gifford asked him, “Why?” Short joked, “Cute. I’m cute.”

After the commercial break, Gifford apologized for her mistake.
