South Dakota Ag Secretary Lucas Lentsch and State Transportation Secretary Darin Bergquist will be in Washington D.C. Friday talking with Surface Transportation Board officials about continued rail delays. Lentsch says while railroads have been reporting on shipments, there is still a backlog and he’s concerned about elevator storage capacity as harvest approaches.

Lentsch says cash basis levels have widened with the delays which are hurting grain prices and that’s likely to get worse unless rail service improves.

Lentsch says the economic stakes are high with a projected record row crop harvest this fall.
