The South Dakota Animal Industry Board is meeting in Pierre today. As part of their agenda they will consider a license for a livestock auction barn in Yankton. State Veterinarian Dr. Dustin Oedekoven says it involves the recently sold Stockman’s Livestock auction business to Greg Ryken.

Oedekoven says the Animal Industry Board will also look at his proposal to repeal a forty year old rule involving quarantine of calves coming into the state.

He says recently implemented federal livestock identification rules make the old state quarantine rule obsolete. The present quarantine rule defines a calf as 60 days old or less than 200 pounds and unaccompanied by its mother.
