Sales tax reports from the South Dakota Department of Revenue show increases in the first quarter of the year, with January up three point five percent, February up four point seven percent and March up just over six percent.

Much of that is driven by retail sales.

The Memorial Day weekend starts the travel season in the state. Lyons says that is important for all retailers, not just the tourism related businesses…

Lyons says the potential is there for a really good year for retailers…
