South Dakota State University baseball coach Dave Schrage announced Tuesday the addition of all-region junior college players Sam Krick and Eldon Evans, who will join the Jackrabbits this fall.

“This will complete a very solid recruiting class for our program,” said Schrage, who has led the Jackrabbit to the top seed in the Summit League Baseball Championship each of the past two seasons, along with an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2013.

The left-handed hitting Krick put up impressive numbers at the plate for the Anoka Ramsey Community College squad during the recently completed 2014 season, posting a .463 batting average (38-for-82) with 30 runs batted in and 26 runs scored. Half of his hits went for extra bases as he led the team with 10 doubles, four triples and five home runs for an .866 slugging percentage. He went on to earn all-Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference and all-Region XIII honors as an outfielder.

“We are very excited to add Sam to our incoming recruiting class,” Schrage said. “He will give us a middle-of-the-order bat with plenty of power. He also has great work ethic and defensive skills.”

A native of Elk River, Minnesota, Krick began his collegiate career at Upper Iowa University, where he batted .225 in 18 games during the 2013 season, adding two home runs and 10 RBI.

Evans also was an all-Region XII selection as a pitcher for Century College in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. The right-hander compiled a 5-2 record with a 1.75 earned run average in nine appearances during the 2014 season, striking out 33 batters in 46.1 innings.

“Eldon possesses a power arm and has big-game pitching experience as the No. 1 pitcher for a solid junior college program,” Schrage said. “He also brings tremendous leadership qualities to our program.”

Originally from Montevideo, Minnesota, Evans spent four years in the United States Air Force before resuming his baseball career at Century College. In his first season, the right-hander posted a 7-2 record with 48 strikeouts in 49 innings as Century finished as runner-up at the NJCAA Division III World Series.

South Dakota State finished the 2014 season with a 28-29 overall record.
