Ohio man killed in shootout with police in Walmart parking lot

SUSPECT SHOT: Danny Thornton, 47, was fatally shot after exchanging gunfire with police in a Walmart parking lot.

COLUMBUS, Ohio –Police fatally shot a man wanted in connection with multiple shootings on Friday morning, including one that left a child injured.

Danny Thornton was fatally shot after exchanging gunfire with police in the parking lot of Walmart and Sam’s Club on the city’s northeast side.

Police said they had been searching for Thornton, 47, after a pair of shootings early Friday, including one that left a 9-year-old boy critically wounded.

Thornton allegedly shot the boy in the face and then drove to a nearby dentist’s office where he allegedly shot a woman.

A Columbus S.W.A.T. officer was also injured after exchanging gunfire with Thornton, 47, while attempting to arrest him after he was spotted in the parking lot of the big-box retailer.

No other injuries were reported in connection with the shootings. Police were still investigating the relationship between Thornton and the shooting victims, as well as a motive for the shooting spree.
