The first steps in a major reconstruction of the City of Yankton’s water treatment process are underway. City Finance Officer Al Viereck says drilling of test wells is underway at Paddlewheel Point near the Missouri River…

 

The city is looking for a major source of underground water to replace the current intakes in the Missouri River.

Viereck says initial tests show that the drillers are finding pretty promising sand and gravel underground…

 

The collector well would be the first major piece of the construction that could cost almost thirty million dollars total.
