Special Session Cancelled

A special session of the legislature that was called by South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard has been canceled. Lawmakers were set to go to Pierre on June 22nd.

The Governor sent an email to all lawmakers today saying they have been assured that the twenty three million dollar federal grant for a new veterans nursing home in Hot Springs will be available after July first. There had been concern that if the state did not have agreements in hand, that money could be lost.

House Minority Leader Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton says this gives legislators more time to consider the proposal……

Hunhoff says legislators are concerned with the costs of the facility……

Bids for the new hospital have come in at fifty million dollars. Hunhoff says they can now take a closer look at the entire project……
