South Dakota Wheat Producers Talking About Possible Checkoff Change

South Dakota Wheat Producers Talking About Possible Checkoff Change

South Dakota wheat producers are discussing a possible change in the checkoff rate.  South Dakota Wheat Inc. Executive Director Kathy Osmond says the proposal would change the assessment so it takes into account the market value of wheat.

She says producers are encouraged to provide input on the proposal.  A survey was mailed to producers and can also be accessed online.

Osmond says the checkoff change is needed because the budget has been shrinking with declining wheat acres in the state.  The proposal will be discussed at the annual meeting on December 3 and 4 in Pierre.
