South Dakota Vets Home

South Dakota lawmakers will be going back to Pierre later this month for a one day special session. Legislators will be asked to approve up to ten million dollars in state funding to begin construction of a new Vets Home in Hot Springs.

Governor Dennis Daugaard says it has been an annoying process……

Bids for the new facility came in much higher than the estimates provided by state engineers.

Daugaard says the planned facility is not being overbuilt…

The bids came in around fifty one million dollars. The state had set aside about forty three million dollars in state and federal dollars.

Daugaard says he expects the legislature to question the process, and then approve the new construction……

The special session is set for Saturday, June 22nd.
